Virtual assistance and motherhood

It’s hard work being a mother. You must be available to your family around-the-clock. Moreover, as you remain at home, you consider how you can financially support your husband or how the future will pan out. Moms work as virtual assistants for a variety of reasons. Kathryn Alexander of becomeavamom.net and I shared some common reasons:

7 Reasons to Become A Virtual Assistant Mom

1. BE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR KIDS

How quickly childhood passes. You might miss some things if you have to work outside the home. We are all aware that supporting one’s family comes before everything else. But with a virtual assistant business, you can support your family while also spending time with the kids. This is the top motivation for mothers to launch a home business.

2. NO AGE DISCRIMINATION

Unfortunately, this is a significant issue in some businesses. Either you are too old or too young to work. If alcohol or tobacco is served, some businesses require that employees be of legal drinking and smoking age. When you work as a virtual assistant, you are in charge. If you can complete the task, your clients won’t be concerned about your age.

3. THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE WHO YOU WORK WITH

Do you tend to connect better with some people than others of a certain type? You can select the clients you want for your VA business. You might collaborate with writers, salespeople, consultants, coaches, executives, business owners, and entrepreneurs, to name a few. You are free to decide who you want as a client. Both of you become more productive as a result, benefiting the client as well.

You can also stipulate in your contract that either party may terminate it at any time for any reason, particularly if the work for the client and the assistant becomes stressful, if the other party doesn’t pay on time, if they behave rudely or abusively, etc. you can stick anything in your contract because you are the boss of your business and get to decide who you work with.

4. YOU GET TO PICK YOUR OWN HOURS

When you work as a virtual assistant, you can set your own schedule and work while the kids are sleeping or napping. You can also work during the day so you can be there for them before and after school. The adaptability is incredible. You can decide if you want to work full- or part-time.

5. SAVE ON COMMUTING COSTS AND TIME

If you live in a big city, or even a small city, getting to and from work requires a lot of time and money if you drive or must purchase a monthly bus pass.

When you work from home as a virtual assistant, you won’t have to worry about strangers touching you on the bus or having to fill up your gas tank several times a week to drive across town and spend hours getting to work at a job you don’t really enjoy.

6. GAIN BUSINESS SKILLS AS YOU MAKE MONEY

You can charge whatever you want in this business because you are in charge—within reason. For different VA skills, most people tend to pay between $10 and $40 per hour. You can charge more and more skilled VAs charge more for more complex jobs.

You can learn as you make money when you are just getting started. You’ll find work if you say that your business is just getting started, list the tasks you can perform, and say that you’d like to pick up some new skills. Being a learn-as-you-go person, you will need to charge accordingly. If you have no experience, you’ll likely start out making $5–10 per hour. But depending on what you are doing, after just a few months of experience, you can start earning $15–$25.

7. ALWAYS SOMETHING TO LEARN

You constantly have the option to learn new systems, programs, skills, and services when you work as a virtual assistant, if you so choose. The only thing you have to do is sign up for a system that most people use but that you have never used, then go to the support or help files and read it to the best of your ability. In addition, you can enroll in tutorial classes to hone your skills or use the well-known YouTube to learn just about anything.
